Tonight's Debate; Political Primer Part Two: LexMonitor's Daily Bloggers Discussion

The credit crisis is looming over all our heads, markets around the world are quickly falling, the DOW fell below 10,000 points for the first time in five years, and tonight the two men who want to try to fix all of this are set to debate till they drop. Barack Obama and John McCain will meet for their second debate (this debate is in the style of a town-hall meeting) at Belmont University in Nashville. With just a few hours before the rhetoric starts flying, here’s what bloggers around the country have to say.

  • “If Senator John McCain is in fact trying to shift the focus of attention away from his ability to deal with the economy, it should show up tonight on the debate stage. Mr. McCain meets Senator Barack Obama at Belmont University in Nashville in the second of three presidential debates.” – from What to Watch for During Round 2, at The Caucus
  • “God bless the Daily Show. They are practitioners of cutting-edge journalism. They are the ONLY news source that has obtained short lists of Supreme Court nominees from both candidates.” – from McCain and Obama SCOTUS Short Lists, at Supreme Dicta
  • “If the past weekend was a preview of coming attractions, then the next month should provide a lot of sleazy political drama. Both campaigns have “gone postal” (I prefer this to the term “nuclear”), and the amorphous but omnipresent “character” issue has been thrust into the election.” – from Keating and Ayers: The Campaigns Go Postal!, at Dissenting Justice
  • “As one of the premier blogs on issues regarding insurance, and particularly on health care and health insurance, we get quite a few solicitations from folks who want us to help get their message out to our readers. Yes, it is an election year. And yes, there are quite a few special interest groups asking for a handout from politicians who are willing to promise anything if you will just send them to Washington.” – from It Must Be An Election Year . . . The Saga Continues, at InsureBlog
  • “Imagine for a moment if John McCain were running against John McCain. The first John McCain might be having a field day right now attacking the second John McCain for voting in the U.S. Senate last week to approve tens of billions of dollars in earmarks.” – from McCain, Obama debate: Pass the pork, at The Swamp
